Lauren Kalman's "Hard Wear (Pearls)"


Not the Family Jewels! is an exhibition exploring non-precious and in some cases “not-so-wearable” wearable artworks . Artists include: Gabriel Craig, Arthur Hash, Lauren Kalman, Masumi Kataoka, Katja Korsawe, Edward McCartney, Gwendolyn McLarty, Erika Pahk, Natalya Pinchuk, Gary Schott, Amy Weiks, and Kristi Wilson.

Some materials and approaches in the show include credit cards, fishing bobs, felt, performance, rawhide, rubber bands, seed bombs, terry cloth, video, vintage quilt remnants, and zip ties.

Opening reception: Saturday, February 6, 8-10pm
Curator’s talk at 7:30pm

Closing reception: Thursday, March 11, 7-10pm
Show runs through Sunday, March 14, 2010.

Lorrie Aslakson, William Bailey, Rafael Castañet, Jess W. Coleman, Brian Ford, Gena Haber, Byrne Jackson, Cam Lu, Fiona F. Maclean, Austin McClure, Annette K. Palmer, and William Tone are a group meeting weekly at Art League Houston to draw and paint from the figure. This exhibition will feature their creations. Nude art models will be attending the opening reception!
